At Home Senior Pet Care
Senior pets are just wonderful family pets. They also have special care requirements that younger pets do not have. One way to improve the quality of your pet’s life is through excellent veterinary care.
It is in your senior pet’s best interest to have our veterinarians visit your pet more often (at least twice a year) to catch any medical issues early and to help you manage any senior pet issues your pet may be facing. Remember, dogs and cats age faster than humans, so even six months is a long time.
Our housecall service is invaluable for older pets who suffer from a disability, such as blindness, hearing loss, or an inability to walk, older cats who have gained weight or cannot ride in a cat carrier and for any pet owner who cannot bring their senior pet to the animal hospital. Take advantage of our housecall service so that your pet sees the veterinarian more often in a less stressful place for both you and your senior pet.
Senior Pet Housecall Exams
Our senior pet housecall appointments include an extensive physical exam, a visual dental exam, and may include additional bloodwork or diagnostic testing to identify diseases common to older pets.
Heartworm, Flea/Tick and Parasite Prevention
As dogs age, their immune systems become weaker, so that means the potential health risks caused by ticks, fleas, worms, and other pests are greater for a senior pet. During your pet’s housecall exam, we will talk to you about the safest preventative measures for your senior pet.
Senior Pet Nutrition
Many senior dogs struggle with dental issues and may need to switch to different foods. Another common issue associated with canine aging is problems with digestion. We recommend food the proper food and nutrition choices for your pet. Foods designed specifically for senior dogs often include ingredients that are easier to digest and may even include supplements that help alleviate symptoms associated with aging.
Senior Pet Consultations
As your senior pet ages, we can help you understand the ways in which you can make your senior pet healthier, happier and pain free. For example, if your senior page has a sudden onset of behavior issue, this may be an early sign of a medical issue such as arthritis, and catching it faster can make a big difference to your senior pet.

Please note: we do not perform surgeries, dental treatments, or diagnostic images, such as MRI, CT or Radiographs, in a Housecall appointment. We perform diagnostic care and surgical care at one of our animal hospital locations. We offer 24/7 emergency care at our Huntington, NY location (West Hills Animal Hospital & Emergency Center). We may recommend your pet visit one of our animal hospitals during a Housecall visit. We can provide transportation to the animal hospital if needed.
